Driver Safety Programs - Driver Record

Driver Record

A driver record should be a tool for hiring and education. A smart business owner will NOT use the driver record as a threat.

Driver Record - Beware Overkill

There are only two times when an employee's driver record should come into play for the business owner or manager:

  1. At the time of hire - if the record is deplorable, the individual should not be hired for a position where driving is stressed.
  2. In the event or repeat moving violations or traffic offenses - repeat auto safety offenders.

Keeping a watchful eye of your employees' driving habits is essential to maintaining a safe and affordable mobile business, but leaning too heavily on the drivers themselves will eventually weight everyone down.

Putting too much weight on the driver record

Offering bonuses or salary incentives for safe driving is misleading - everyone should be concerned for their safety while on the road. We at Driver Safety Training Program believe the best monitoring tactics are those that are least invasive - annual checks of on-the-job driver records, continual encouragement for overall safety maintenance, and programs designed to keep drivers aware of all the risks and the ways to minimize those risks.

But come down too hard and your employees will feel the squeeze to perform, which causes dangerous driving habits in itself. Simple education is the best way to guarantee a clean driver record for all your mobile employees.
